Above the Andaz Wall Street hotel in a building built in 1987 for offices of the Barkley’s Bank, are 26 floors of condominium. Our job was to furnish and decorate one of the few Penthouses available in this building. The challenge was  for us to match the world class luxury living at 75 Wall Street while preserving the bank building’s architecture and Wall Street’s spirit. We took fully advantage of this space featuring abundant natural light and materials, high ceilings, oversized windows and private sky outdoor spaces. We went for a minimalist, with yet, a comfortable touch, always trying to match the 75 Wall living grandeur. We went for a modern, almost strict bedroom and a more glamorous master bedroom. The Penthouse features custom made wood furniture such as decks on the three private terraces, television entertainment unit, back of the sofa console and night stands in the junior bedroom. Terraces are a mix of wood deck and round river stones providing a zen surrounding for a quiet outdoor space. Not to forget some stunning city and river views. This Apartment features designer furniture such as the dramatic La Rotonda crystal top table and the classic LC4 Le Corbusier lounge all by Cassina.

Luxurious 2 bedroom/2 bathroom apartment located at the William Beaver House

Project type: Residential interior design

Location: 15 William Street, New York, NY

Size: 1,325 Sq.Ft.

Completed: 2010

Services provided: interior design

This William Beaver House 2-bedroom unit has a very nice layout, finishes and offers very functional elements. The building being designed by reputable hotelier Andre Balazs (who brought his sense of service, hospitality and smart functional design to the project), be sure that nothing was left to chance.

The William Beaver House giving you the sense of living in a 5-star hotel, we wanted to bring the comfort of a 5-star hotel mixed with modernism and conviviality as hotels are often nothing but convivial. It’s still a home after all!

Strict elegance was de rigueur for the living and dining areas with the use of charcoal and black tons for the furniture. To contrast and make not only the room but also the beautiful floor “pops up”, we added some bright colors in different tons of pink from fuchsia to purple in the forms of pillows on the charcoal sofa bed in the living area, an antic lamp oil found in the Bronx and La Marie chairs by Philippe Starck around the dining table. For conviviality purposes and instill the spirit of sharing and intimacy around the dining table, we opted for a wood dining table with a bench on a side and clear purple chairs and the Ghost Candelabra by Jon Russell for a chic convivial modern look.

We chose two very different looks for the bedrooms. For the junior bedroom, we literally went green. We wanted to bring some freshness and create a very relaxing and calm atmosphere by playing with two colors: white and lime green. To give some character to the room nevertheless, we injected some baroque and vintage elements such as the beautiful pattern bent wood desk chair by Brocade, the bed and the vintage Couture wall art.

For the master bedroom, glamour and intimacy was the guideline. We played with warm neutral tons such as brown and beige but also materials and fabrics with the wood vanity that can be transformed also into a desk for more practicality, shimmering table lamps by Jonathan Adler and the magnificent Ella King Size bed in Micro-Suede texture.

Unique 3 bedroom/3 bathroom loft in a brownstone in Brooklyn

Project type: Residential interior design – Architecture

Location: Fort Greene, Brooklyn

Size: 1,600 Sq.Ft.

Completed: 2011

Services provided: interior design – custom furniture – custom fixture design – architectural design – art consulting

The project was to transform not only esthetically but structurally this traditional duplex in a trendy New York loft.

The first stage was purely architectural. We had to demolish a wall in the Living room in order to expose the brick wall, create an opening to the roof with access via a staircase, build a bulkhead on the roof and remove the tiles in the bathrooms and kitchen to replace them with wood floors.
Once the structural work done, we started the finishing work.
We painted the wood floors with custom-made paint: black with purple and golden glints on the lower level and white optic on the upper level.

  • The Lower level

The kitchen cabinets, which were once classic wood, became bright red to revamp the kitchen old style.
To enhance the classic New York loft style, we selected furniture with a predominance of plastic, stainless steel and leather materials: the LC6 dining table, the LC3 armchair (all by Cassina) or the Gè Pendant Light by Kartell. We added a custom made wood bench and a Persian rug to complete the Living Room area.
We named the first bedroom the “Glamour bedroom” as we wanted to create a feminine and sophisticated atmosphere. The furniture selected is baroque style, elegant and classy at the same time. The main colors we chose are white and silver which marries perfectly with the bright turquoise wall.
The bedroom is decorated with portraits of iconic ladies: Audrey Hepburn or Catherine Deneuve…

  • The Upper Level

A Buddha statue welcomes the Guests and sets the tone: the second floor is all about serenity and comfort.

The second bedroom is named the “Exotic bedroom” which main colors are chocolate, dark orange and gold. The furniture and decorative items are mostly wood to create a rich and friendly atmosphere. A Buddha painting adorns one of the walls to remind the statue at the entrance of the second floor.

The third bedroom is referred as the “Modern Bedroom”. It follows the same scheme as the Living Room: stainless steel and plastic material for a minimalist look. A contemporary Toma L painting adorns one of the walls for a trendy touch.

At the bottom of the staircase, which leads to the roof, we created a lounge and relaxing area with 2 armchairs and green plants.

The roof deck is all about relaxation. Here again, we selected 2 Buddhist Goddess statues along with outdoor furniture: a chaise longue and lounge chairs, perfect to enjoy the Spring/Summer time in New York.

Spacious 2 bedroom/2 bathroom apartment at The Mondrian

Project type: Residential interior design

Location: 250 East 54th street, New York, NY

Size: 1,320 Sq.Ft.

Completed: 2011

Services provided: interior design – art consulting

The Mondrian is named after the great modernist painter famed for his designs of colored grids. The aluminum and glass curtail wall of this tower sports vibrant blues and reds and whites perhaps more unusual for New York, colorful.
The apartment is on the 34th floor with unique views of Downtown Manhattan. The owner already had furniture in the living room and, as a painter, provided the modern and colorful artwork. Therefore our job was to decorate the 2 bedrooms of the apartment.
For the master bedroom, we decided on a Classic theme, with velvet King Size bed and curtains.
For the junior bedroom, we choose a Modern theme, with a low Queen Size bed and bright industrial table lamp.
The apartment is minimalist, yet comfortable and welcoming.

Minimalist 2 bedroom/2 bathroom apartment in a landmark building, One Hanson Place

Project type: Residential interior design

Location: 1 Hanson Place, Brooklyn, NY

Size: 1,350 Sq.Ft.

Completed: 2009

Services provided: interior design – art consulting

One Hanson Place is an historic landmark and the borough’s most recognizable icon.

The One Hanson Place building was conceived in 1926 and was the tallest structure in Brooklyn, soaring 512 feet into the sky. In 1977, it was declared an historic landmark. Now One Hanson Place’s distinctive clock tower and gilded dome – both fully restored – will be preserved forever.

This was one of our first job with the HarmoNYCity Interior design team and we were very impressed with the building and wanted to match its “aura”. It was also our first time to be confronted to a budget while furnishing the apartment.

We had in mind this amazing coffee table we had seen in Dumbo at the time in the warehouse sale of “from the source”. From the source is an imaginative, urban, organic, and hand made and custom furnishings handcraft company based in Greenpoint in Brooklyn. So we bought the table there and decided to “build” around it. This was a controversial starting point within our team but to this day, we do not regret this choice and people who have seen this apartment are always mystified by this coffee table! It is a crowd favorite.

The junior bedroom being more sleek and modern (featuring silver silk curtains),we wanted the master bedroom to be glamorous and comfortable. We also framed an amazing black and white picture of the “parachute” jump, Coney Island’s famed defunct amusement ride, whose iconic open-frame steel structure remains a Brooklyn landmark.

For the Living Room, we opted for an L shape sofa from Room and Board and kept everything simple and sleek.

Artwork throughout the apartment is by Felix Denis.

Modern 2 bedroom/1.5 bathroom duplex in a brownstone in Brooklyn

Project type: Residential interior design – Architecture

Location: Fort Greene, Brooklyn

Size: 1,600 Sq.Ft.

Completed: 2011

Services provided: interior design – custom furniture – custom fixture design – architectural design – art consulting

This well designed duplex has the particularity to have an XXL garden level floor with an unusual 12′ ceiling! This ground floor looks like a mini-loft space (350Sq.Ft open space) and is currently used as a master  bedroom. We wanted to emphasis the contrast between the modern cubical lines of this room and the upstairs space with its private deck and much warmer colors.

We had our contractors team ripped down the wood floor of the lower room and replaced it with a layer of concrete. We also wanted to meet the requirements of our client who complained about this room being very cold in the winter time. Our team came-up with the idea to install a heated system under the concrete, to this day, our client is been delighted with the results. We selected 2 designer chairs: a white Moroso Ripple Chair designed by Ron Arad and a vintage Eames LCM. The walls are all white, flat. Artwork facing the bed is by Toma L.

The upper floor has been drastically challenged with a major architectural improvement: the opening of a window to a deck. The structure of the deck is modern made of iron with steels strings. We went for  an exotic Brazilian wood for the surface of the deck. This exotic wood selection has been the theme of this floor: all about brownish and warm colors. We tried to minimize the transition between the wood deck and the apartment floor, keeping a dark brown color for the floor throughout the apartment. We selected some artwork from a Caribbean artist. We “broke” a long and boring wall section with a wood bean on which are resting a selection of books. We also spiced-up the room with a wall paper with butterflies on it making us fee like they’re flying through out the room. The coffee table and the floor lamp are from Jonathan Adler.

The second bedroom is in the same spirit as the rest of the floor with a cow rug and warm wall colors.

Amazing 1 bedroom/1 bathroom apartment at The Orion

Project type: Residential interior design

Location: 350 West 42nd Street, NewYork, NY

Size: 778 Sq.Ft.

Completed: 2009

This corner unit apartment is located on a 54th floor of a 60-story glass building in Times Square. The apartment offering exceptional features such as the high floor, its views and oversize windows, we decided to highlight them to the maximum. It will give people that would occupy the apartment the feeling of living in a home perched in the sky. We chose a minimalist approach with accents of clear and glass materials such as the purple clear Victoria Ghost chairs by Philippe Starck and the Noguchi coffee table to emphasize the idea of transparency and used neutral/earthy colors throughout the apartment so that the colors don’t outshine the views and those features but to the contrary, add a serene atmosphere.

The idea behind the design of this apartment was to create a modern inviting and comfortable home. When the owner bought this apartment, 2 colors were already preeminent in the apartment, dark brown and linen white. We decided to keep them and add another tone: taupe.
All the furniture in the living room play around those 3 colors in an harmonious way.
The large living room offers several seating options including a custom-made leather rocking chair from ABC Carpet & Home, 2 chairs and a Queen size sofa bed. To add a touch of vibrant color to contrast with the neutral colors, we added these custom-made printed fushia DUNE cushions.
For the dining room, the idea was to create a very intimate, candlelight like atmosphere by playing with the colors and the lighting and still respecting the modern look we wanted to give to the apartment. In terms of colors, we chose to combine white linen and taupe, neutral but still warm colors to create intimacy and warmth. We painted only one wall in taupe. We wanted to have some statement pieces in the room for modernity, three very strong and unique pieces to add character to the room as well. We chose the Theodore Waddel table for CASSINA with a very architectural foot, a very graphic chandelier by Gino Sarfatti for FLOS with a yellow lighting and decorated the wall with an avant-garde painting by the French-Lebanese artist Mikael Sakr, son of the famous Italian fine art specialist and art dealer Charles Sakr.
There are tons of cabinets and custom-made closets throughout the apartment.
For the bedroom, our desire was to create a very peaceful, warm toned and tranquil atmosphere inspired by the calming view of the trees that you can see from the window. To create this serene effect, we chose brown and linen-white as dominant colors reinforced also by the custom-made Brazilian wood desk. A seashell painting ornates the wall on top of the bed thus inviting to relaxation and mental beach wanderings. We added some accents to the room, a couple of more modern pieces that still harmoniously blend very well with the rest of the furniture in the bedroom: the Cortina table lamps and the LC7 chair by Cassina.

Location: 121 West 19th street, New York, NY

Size: 1,134 Sq.Ft.

Completed: 2011

Services provided: interior design

The Lion’s Head Condominium is a renovated deluxe condominium located in the heart of Chelsea.
The building’s exterior features classic 1920’s stone accented with sculptures of majestic lions’ heads and huge contemporary Skyline windows.
We wanted a modern apartment with touches of retro fashions in accordance with the building classic exterior and contemporary indoors.
In the Living room, we selected classic pieces, such as the Saarinen marble dining table and the Tulip chairs (both designed by Eero Saarinen for Knoll), along with fashionable items such as the Eros chairs by Kartell, a George Nelson chandelier and a Zebra rug. The mid-century style sectional sofa, combined with a handmade silk purple rug, contrasts with the modern Cortina floor lamps and  a leather coffee table.
We followed the same scheme in the bedroom, matching a trendy Queen Size bed and Flos night tables with a traditional Chesterfield armchair.

The furnishing is simple yet elegant. The dark chocolate and green tones give a friendly and cozy atmosphere to the Living Room. We selected a mirror coffee table and mirror Lamp base to lighten the room.

The bedroom is the perfect mix between contemporary and classic style: a Parson desk combined with a Ripple chair by Moroso and a Perspective natural steel bed with Brocade wood side tables.

Soaring above Times Square, this Penthouse offers incredible features: 11 feet loft ceilings and incredible sunlight that greets you as you enter this large apartment.

« White modern Heaven » is the theme behind the design of this apartment at the owner’s request. White, modernism and eclecticism were the catchword of the design, guideline. We mixed a lot of contemporary recognizable design furniture such as the Toobe floor lamp by Ferruccio Laviani, the Natuzzi sofa bed, the Ghost armchair and the Bourgie lamp by by Philippe Starck and some eclectic elements such as the wood coffee table found at « From the Source » in Brooklyn to give life to this objective.
