I am posting this on behalf of my sister who stayed here…. These are her words. We were in a difficult situation since we had little access to wifi while we were in Puerto Rico before our stop in New York. We ended up at Port Authority without a room for the night. I had previously contacted Matthieu, who said that the place was available, but I was unable to pay through Airbnb because the verification process required social media or short video, which we didn’t have time to make. Matthieu understood the situation and all was well booking through my sister. We have complex health issues, so it was so important that the apartment be really clean, and it was. No pests, no mold, no dirt, no worries. The futon was so comfortable, it alone was worth the money, for a great night’s sleep. The water pressure and temperature was great, and the room was well-heated on those snowy days. It is small, but I loved living like We had plenty of space to cook in the kitchen, do laundry in the sink and hang it in the bathroom, and dine in the corner to music of many different languages on the dial. Yes, this neighborhood is called Hell’s Kitchen, but it is a great place as a base station to do one’s thing in New York. It is only a handful of blocks’ walk home after a late show on Broadway, which was so important for my daughter. The blinds let little light in because of the courtyard and buildings around it, so she could sleep in later than if the light were streaming in! We arrived late in the evening and were told that the concierge would be waiting for us. Michael indeed greeted us with a smile and such positivity. He showed us the details of the room, and even lent us his personal, sweet, old-style radio – we loved it! – so that we could listen to local channels. Michael made sure that we knew that we could contact him for anything. He let us know about the subways, the local markets, the best times and place to get $1 pizza, and a bit about growing up in New York. We even met his children. Matthieu was also available by phone or internet. When we returned to Seattle, I asked my daughter what her favorite part of each of Puerto Rico, Tampa, Las Vegas, and Philadelpha was. When I asked her her favorite part of our time in New York, she said Michael. At the winter rate, we would definitely stay here again
